Tokunavi Fukuoka

Buzen City

Buzen is in southeastern Fukuoka Prefecture, extending from the Suonada coast to the mountains around Kubote. Seafood, farm produce, mountain scenery and traditions connected with shugendo and local kagura give the city a character distinct from central Fukuoka.

Coast, countryside and culture
The coastal side is known for food from the sea, while inland roads pass fields, villages and forested slopes. Mount Kubote has a long association with mountain worship, and local kagura preserves regional performing traditions.
Getting around
The JR Nippo Main Line serves the coastal part of the city. A car is useful for Kubote and other inland destinations because attractions are spread out and public transport may be limited. Check the route and return timing before a mountain visit.
Travel responsibly
For walks or hikes, check weather and local trail information, wear suitable footwear and avoid entering private farmland. The English articles below introduce destinations and seasonal ideas for building a practical itinerary.
