Canal City Theater

Canal City Theater is a 1,132-seat performing-arts venue in the North Building of Canal City Hakata. Its programme includes musicals, plays, concerts, traditional Japanese performance and family shows; ticket rules and available seating differ for each production.

Find the correct entrance
The theater lobby is on North Building 4F. The first-floor auditorium is physically on building 5F and the second-floor auditorium on 6F. Canal City is large, so follow signs for the North Building rather than only looking for “4F.” Doors, merchandise sales, age limits, identity checks and wheelchair arrangements are set by the organiser.
Access
The address is 1-2-1 Sumiyoshi, Hakata. Kushida Shrine subway station Exit 1 is about a three-minute walk, Hakata Station about ten minutes, Gion about seven minutes and Nakasu-Kawabata about ten minutes. The Canal City Hakata-mae bus stop is immediately nearby.
Visitor facilities
Free coin lockers are in the 4F lobby; insert a ¥100 coin, which is returned after use. Large suitcases may not fit. The first-floor foyer on 5F has an accessible toilet and wheelchair spaces, but visitors using a wheelchair should contact the event organiser in advance. The venue is non-smoking. Discounted theater-user parking cards are sold for Canal City parking and Park Sumiyoshi, but public transport avoids event-day congestion.
