Katsuyama Park (Kokura)

Katsuyama Park is the large civic park surrounding Kokura Castle in central Kitakyushu. Its lawns, riverside spaces and cultural attractions make it an easy rest stop between the castle, Riverwalk Kitakyushu and the Kokura shopping district.

Highlights
The park contains Kokura Castle, Kokura Castle Garden, the Matsumoto Seicho Memorial Museum, the central library and a large lawn used for festivals. About 300 cherry trees make the castle area especially popular in spring; autumn foliage is another seasonal draw.
Getting there
Walk about 10 minutes from JR Nishi-Kokura Station or 20 minutes from JR Kokura Station. From the Kitakyushu Shiyakusho-mae bus stop, the park is about five minutes on foot.
Practical note
The park itself is open space, but museums and the castle have separate hours and admission. Event setups can change walking routes, so check each venue when planning a timed visit.
