Kokura Castle is central Kitakyushu's main historic landmark. The rebuilt keep uses interactive displays to introduce the castle town, while Kokura Castle Garden, Katsuyama Park, Yasaka Shrine and Riverwalk Kitakyushu are all within an easy walk.
Admission and hoursAdult admission to the castle is ¥500. A ¥700 combination ticket covers the castle and garden, and a ¥900 ticket also includes the Matsumoto Seicho Memorial Museum. The castle opens 9:00–20:00 from April to October and 9:00–19:00 from November to March, with no regular closing day. Event hours can differ.
Getting there
Walk about 10 minutes from JR Nishi-Kokura Station or 15 minutes from JR Kokura Station. The compact city-centre location makes it easy to continue to Tanga Market or the Murasaki River.
Evening visit
The keep is normally illuminated from sunset to 22:00. The exterior and park can be enjoyed after museum hours, but check event restrictions before making a special trip. Information checked 12 August 2026. Hours, fares and access can change; confirm the official site before travel.
