Nanzoin Temple

Nanzoin is the head temple of the Sasaguri Shikoku pilgrimage and is known for its 41-metre bronze reclining Buddha. Temples and statues are spread over a wooded hillside, so expect slopes and stairs.

Admission and hours
From March 2026, the general admission fee is ¥500. Visitors under 19 and residents of Japan are free, although proof may be requested. Entry inside the reclining Buddha requires a separate ¥500 offering. The reclining-Buddha area normally operates 9:00–17:00, with last admission at 16:45.
Getting there
Take the JR Fukuhoku Yutaka Line from Hakata to Kido-Nanzoin-mae Station, about 20 minutes by rapid train. The temple entrance is roughly three minutes from the station and the reclining Buddha about ten minutes uphill.
Rules
Clothing that exposes shoulders, the abdomen or above the knees may be refused. Selfie sticks, tripods and stabilisers are prohibited, and photography is limited in some areas. Large luggage should be left at Hakata Station or your hotel because there are no lockers nearby.
