Onojo Ikoi-no-Mori Park

Onojo Ikoi-no-Mori is a large nature park around Ushikubi Dam, southeast of Fukuoka city. Its separate areas include a central park with a giant playground, a shallow waterside park, sports grounds and a forest campsite.

Hours and cost
The central and sports parks normally open 9:00–18:00 from March through October and 9:00–17:00 from November through February. They close on Mondays, or the following day when Monday is a public holiday, and from 27 December to 5 January; there is normally no Monday closure in July or August. Park admission is free. Parking at the central park and campsite costs ¥220 per visit.
Getting there
A car is the practical choice because the facilities are spread around the reservoir. By public transport, take a bus from Nishitetsu Shimo-Ori Station to Minami-Yamate Danchi, then walk about 30 minutes to the central park or about one hour to the campsite. The central park and campsite are about five minutes apart by car but roughly 30 minutes on foot.
Plan ahead
The campsite requires an advance reservation by the previous business day. Wear shoes suited to hills, bring drinks in warm weather and check the location of your chosen area before setting out.
