Mount Sarakura

Mount Sarakura is Kitakyushu's best-known panoramic viewpoint. A cable car and slope car connect the lower station to the 622-metre summit observatory in about ten minutes, with city, harbour and industrial-nightscape views.

Fares and hours
A round trip covering both the cable car and slope car is ¥1,230 for adults and ¥620 for children. Service normally runs 10:00–22:00 from April to October, with the last uphill cable car at 21:20, and 10:00–20:00 from November to March, last uphill at 19:20. Tuesday is the regular non-operating day except public holidays, and maintenance or bad weather can suspend service.
Getting there
JR Yahata Station is the nearest rail station. The lower cable-car station is about five minutes by taxi or 25 minutes on foot; a free shuttle bus runs on cable-car operating days according to its timetable. Cars cannot reach the summit, but parking is available near the lower station.
Night-view tip
Arrive before sunset to see both daylight and night views, and check the final downhill connection before lingering at the observatory.
