Yahatahigashi Ward, Kitakyushu

Yahatahigashi Ward is where Kitakyushu's modern industrial story and mountain scenery meet. The ward includes heritage connected with the former Imperial Steel Works, museums and shopping in Higashida, and the night view from Mount Sarakura.

Higashida and industrial heritage
The area around Space World Station includes the Kitakyushu Museum of Natural History and Human History, Space LABO and large shopping facilities. Some steelworks heritage sites can only be viewed from designated areas or on special opening dates, so check access before travel.
Mount Sarakura
The mountain is known for wide views over Kitakyushu. Reaching the summit area usually involves transport to the cable-car base and then the cable car and slope car. Service can be suspended by weather or maintenance.
Planning a route
JR Yahata and Space World stations serve different parts of the ward. Higashida is easy to explore on foot; Mount Sarakura needs a separate access plan. Museum closing days and cable-car hours should be checked individually.
