Hakozaki Shrine

Hakozaki Shrine is one of Fukuoka's major Hachiman shrines and is closely linked to the Hakata autumn festival Hojoya. The long approach, historic tower gate and seasonal flower gardens make it a worthwhile stop beyond the busiest city-centre sights.

Visitor information
The main gates normally open 6:00–19:00. Prayer reception is 9:00–16:30, while amulets and goshuin are generally available 8:30–17:30, extending to 18:30 from June through August. Special festivals can change access.
Getting there
From Hakozaki-Miyamae Station on the subway Hakozaki Line, Exit 1 leads to the shrine and the tower gate is about three minutes away. JR Hakozaki Station is also within walking distance.
Seasonal visits
The peony garden, lily season, hydrangea garden and September Hojoya have separate dates, hours or fees. Check the current shrine announcement if one of these is your main reason to visit.
